Lagos Life, Watched and Explained

Video of the real game, then the same journey step by step with every number attached — traits, the birth lottery, housing, your first shift and the quests inside it.

Watch the game in action

The fastest way to understand Lagos Life is to see someone live a first session in it. This player walkthrough from @KKCgames11 covers the official game end to end — signup, the city map and the opening moves — and is the gameplay video we have verified shows lagoslife.app (plenty of uploads this week actually show a different game; more on that below).

Player-recorded walkthrough of the official game at lagoslife.app — signup, the city and the first steps, as uploaded 6 October 2026.

One caveat before you copy anything from a video: this game changes almost daily. The clips above are a 6 October snapshot of a game that added jail, house upgrades, direct messages and thirteen new careers during its first week. The written guides below carry the numbers as community trackers recorded them on 4–6 October, with sources.

The first hour, illustrated

The same journey as the video, in text — every step, every price, every trap. Skim it once before you sign up and you will save yourself a week of beginner tax.

Step 1 — Create your account (2 minutes)

Sign up at the official site: a username, a display name and a password. Add an email even though it is optional — password resets are emailed, so an account without one is unrecoverable if you forget it. The game is 18+, works on phone or desktop, and if it misbehaves when opened from Instagram or TikTok, reopen it in a plain Safari or Chrome tab.

Step 2 — Choose your trait (permanent)

Ten traits, one pick, no re-roll. Traits change how fast skills grow rather than what you can do — so the smart move is matching your trait to a career ladder:

TraitEffectFeeds these careers
HustlerHustle skill grows faster; bosses noticeTrading, Hairstyling, Event Planning, Civil Service
Tech Bro / SisCoding grows fasterTech (and unlocks Product Management's gate)
Smooth TalkerCharisma grows faster; socials land betterBanking, Law, Real Estate, Content Creator
Gym RatFitness grows fast; workouts feel goodNursing, Fitness Coach, Medicine, Aviation
MusicalMusic skill grows fasterMusic, DJ
FoodieCooking learns fast; food extra enjoyableChef
Owambe SpiritParties and dancing go better; bores quickerSocial play rather than a career
Night CrawlerLoves nightlifeMusic, DJ (the night shifts)
Lazy BoneEnergy lasts longer; work suffers a bitAny — the comfort pick
Clean PikinHygiene drops slowerAny — quality of life

Community consensus for a first character: Hustler (best generalist), Tech Bro/Sis (the Tech ladder) or Smooth Talker (Banking, the best ungated starting pay at ₦11,600 a shift).

Step 3 — The birth lottery (permanent)

One roll, decided before you understand the game, and it cannot be re-rolled:

LAPO Baby — hard mode

Starts with a ₦60,000 microfinance loan, repaid at ₦12,000 a week on top of rent. Repay early, then play normally — the loan is a tutor in Lagos money management.

Nepo Baby — easy mode

A furnished Lekki flat with rent paid, a car, ₦500,000 pocket money and a Branch Manager banking job from day one. Comfortable, slightly less educational.

Step 4 — Pick housing (rent recurs weekly)

HomeAreaCost
Face-me-I-face-youMushin₦2,400 / week
Self-containYaba₦6,000 / week
Mini-flatLekki Phase 1₦17,000 / week
DuplexIkoyi₦250,000 one-time purchase
MansionBanana Island₦1,500,000 one-time purchase

New players should take the Mushin room: at ₦2,400 a week it is the smallest possible rent obligation while you learn the game, and upgrading later is a happy milestone rather than a trap. Rent is due every Saturday — see step 7.

Step 5 — Work your first shift

Open the Jobs app on your in-game phone: it shows your career, shift start time and venue. Then travel there physically — the work action only appears if you are at the venue inside your shift window. A shift runs about one real hour, once per in-game day, and commuting costs ₦150. All 21 careers, their ranks and their per-shift pay are in the money & jobs comparison table.

Step 6 — Keep the six bars alive

NeedDrain rateNotes
Bladder7 / hourFastest drainer — plan around toilets
Hunger5.5 / hourCheap to fix; party jollof ₦1,500
Fun4.5 / hourRestore at venues, not by idling
Energy4 / hourFixed by sleep
Hygiene3.5 / hourYour own bathroom
Social3 / hourThe multiplayer bar — other players fill it

Step 7 — Survive the first Saturday

  • Protect one week's rent, untouched. Saturday rent is the only deadline the game really has. Everything else is negotiable.
  • Do not buy furniture yet. A foam mattress is ₦1,800; a fridge is ₦13,200 — and a fridge needs power, power means a generator, a generator needs fuel. That chain can eat a beginner's whole wallet.
  • Invest in your career's skill instead. Skill gates every promotion, and promotions are the biggest early income jump. Train with dedicated activities, not on-shift hours (a shift hour is worth only ~0.35 skill points; dedicated training runs 1.3–1.9).
  • Later: a POS stand in Yaba (₦500,000) pays roughly ₦4,000–₦9,000 per shift — the community's favourite first passive income once capital allows.

Inside a shift: quests and the safe answers

Shifts are not idle timers — quests pop up minutes into a shift with a two-minute window to answer. Winning all four in one shift pays a 15% bonus, and answers have verifiable odds. The Music career's quests, community-verified:

QuestSafest answerWhy
"The crowd wants an encore!"Play your hit again90% success (freestyling in pidgin is only 50%)
"NEPA took light mid-song"Wait for the genAlways works (acapella is a 45% gamble)
"A big man is spraying money"Keep singingAlways works (hyping him is 60%)
"A famous producer is in the crowd"Play it coolAlways works (handing over a demo is 35%)

Odds improve by about 5% per relevant skill level and with good mood — the general rule across every career: the flashy option is the gamble, the humble option is the guarantee.

Not the same game: if the video you just watched shows someone driving a danfo through Lagos traffic for points, that is Lagos Run — a separate Nigerian browser game by a different developer that went viral the same week. In Lagos Life you ride danfos (₦150 a trip). The 234Drive episodes below cover Lagos Run and are excellent — just know which game you are watching:

Frequently asked questions

Are there official Lagos Life video tutorials?
Not yet. The developer (Shalom Rayhamen, @Shalom_HeyEliy on X) announces every update as text posts on X rather than videos, and the game itself teaches by doing. What exists on YouTube so far is player-recorded coverage like the @KKCgames11 walkthrough embedded above — we link only videos we have verified actually show the official game.
Will the game look exactly like it does in the videos?
Mostly, but expect small differences — this game ships changes almost daily. In its first week alone the job board grew from 8 careers to 14 and then 21, pays were rebalanced upward, and jail, house upgrades and direct messages all arrived as updates. Treat any video, including ours, as a snapshot of that week.
I saw a video about driving a danfo through Lagos traffic — is that this game?
That is Lagos Run, a separate browser game by a different Nigerian developer that went viral the same week. In Lagos Life you ride danfos as transport around the city (₦150 a trip); in Lagos Run you drive one through go-slow for points. Both are worth playing — they are just not the same game, and we note the difference at the bottom of this page.
What should I do in my first hour, in one paragraph?
Sign up (add an email — it is the only password-recovery route), pick a trait that matches a career you like, take the cheap Mushin room if the birth lottery gave you a choice, survive your first shift by arriving at the workplace inside your shift window, and keep one week of rent (₦2,400+) untouched at all times. The full illustrated version is on this page; the numbers live in our money & jobs guide.
